Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation: Collagen Induction Treatment

Why I need microneedling?

Ageing is an inevitable part of our life. As we advances in age, our skin start to loose it’s elasticity due to low collagen and elastin fibre production. Collagen  are the fibres who are responsible for tight and glowing Skin texture. Stress makes us look more older then our actual age, because it has an adverse effects on collagen production.

What is microneedling ?

Microneedling is basically controlled superficial injuries to the skin. Microneedling is minimal invasive, non surgical, cosmetic treatment of the skin. Microneedling involves pricking the skin with fine, sharp small sterilized multiple needles at once. These micro needles make small tiny wounds or pores into the skin which results into a body’s response to heal the site with more elastin and collagen production at the injured site. Microneedling alerts brain by sending a signal that body is wounded, brain rushes to heal the site through supplying more blood, nutrients and growth factors. Which results in healthier and younger skin. Microneedling is also known by the name of collagen induction treatment.

Is there any side effects of microneedling too ?

Little or more side effects are always associated with any medical procedure. Microneedling also have some side effects or better to say the effects which induces collagen production at the microneedling site, which are necessary for collagen production. Skin irritation (immediately following the procedure),like redness, mild pain sensations, etching or burning sensation are some side effects of the treatment. These symptoms may follow 2-4 days. Some tightness and flaking may happen while you skin heals. Consult your doctor if you feel severe :

  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Peeling

When not to go for microneedling?

Microneedling is commonly avoided in some case due to low immunity or higher chances of infection caused by other medical condition like.

  • Pregnancy
  • Skin diseases like psoriasis or eczema
  • open wounds
  • History of radio therapy
  • History of skin scars after minor injuries

Possible scarring : Microneedling isn’t a good idea for people who have keloids or scars that look like large bubbles on the skin. It could make the condition worse.

What to expect ?

Immediately after microneedling, skin start healing to rejuvenate new tissue at the site. You can observe the difference with in 3-4 four days but complete microneedling results only appear 4-6 weeks later. That’s why we need many follow up treatment session apart a month to get full benefits of microneedling. Sometimes multiple sessions are needed to get the desired results.

How many sessions are needed:

As the skin thickness and skin problems varies person to person treatment also varies person to person. Usually 3-4 sessions are needed to get 50-70% improvement. But how many sessions you will need,  this will depend on your skin type and the problem for which you are  going through microneedling. Visit your healthcare provider to know how many sessions you will need.

Is microneedling better then laser or chemical peels ?

Microneedling is less expensive than laser treatments. Usually it will cost  you four times less money then laser treatments. Microneedling requires less downtime then laser or deep chemical peeling.  Microneedling may work better for people with darker skin tones because it doesn’t involve heat the way laser treatments do, which can affect your skin’s pigmentation or color.

How the procedure is done ?

First you need to book your an appointment with your doctor and be there on time. Ask any queries if you have before the treatment start.

  • First the doctor will apply a numbing cream on your face or area you want to get treated
  • Then you have to wait for 30-40 minutes until all the skin is numb.
  • Then they will clean your face with 70% alcohol and senitize you face.
  • Now they will apply a hydrating gel on the surface to make it slippery and will do microneedling with derma pen or derma roller.
  • Often you will not feel much discomfort but the slighte pricking and burning sensation are felt. These sensation are very mild and do not cause any pain or discomfort.
  • After microneedling is done they will apply some medicated cream or hydrating gel.
  • Do not wash toy face for couple of hours.
  • Later you can clean your face with plain water and follow post operative instructions given by doctors.

Cost:

Microneedling will cost you around 1000 – 10000 INR per session. Price varies with the area involved in the treatment. Larger the area greater will be the price. If you add PRP treatment the cost will further increase. Ask your healthcare provider the exact cost for you requirement.
