Is it safe to have PRP ?
In PRP, we use patient’s own blood for the treatment and drive their own growth factors to heal their body. Hance PRP injections are safe and can be administered alone or used in conjunction with other medicines. We examine our patients thoroughly about their health issues or any treatment they are going through before suggesting them for PRP.
What’s PRP Therapy and how you do it :
Pre PRP Instructions:
The patient should discuss with the doctor of any prescriptions or any medications the patient is using for other problems or any health issues he is facing.
It is important to follow the doctor’s instructions regarding medications that prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen or blood thinners. Acetaminophen is fine for pain killer after treatment but ask your doctor before taking it.
On the day of treatment, because PRP therapy involves drawing of blood, it is important for the patient to eat a healthy meal before the procedure. Energy drink and snacks are provide at our clinic if required or patient feels weakness. For PRP only 10-20 ml blood is sufficient, hence no need to worry about too much weakness or any medical condition.
First, the doctor will draw blood from the patient’s arm and then prepare the PRP from it.
After applying numbing cream or injecting lidocaine to numb the treatment area, the doctor carefully injects the PRP into multiple places under the skin. The platelets break down and release their growth factors, which trigger the natural processes of cell proliferation and tissue renewal.
The procedure itself takes about 30-45 minutes, and most people can resume their normal activities immediately after getting the treatment.
Post PRP instructions:
The patient should avoid washing the treatment area or using any cosmetic products over treated area for 48 hours. After that, it is all right to use hair and skin care products and continue with topical medications.
What’s the DOWNTIME after treatment :
The treatment area may be sore for two or three days, and the patient may notice some bruising or pin point blood discharge from the treatment site. But these are minimal and no medication or attention require. You health care provider will explain you the post operative instructions and post care medication if needed. Acetaminophen can help ease discomfort. In case of severe pain, the patient should notify the doctor’s office right away.
When to expect the results:
The effect of treatment is most noticeable only after at least 3-6 months. Repeated sessions may be necessary to maintain the improvement in hair & skin growth and texture.
